Dearest Family and Friends,We hope this letter finds you healthy and happy. This year has been an especially happy year for us!
January- This was a big month for Oakley. First, she got potty trained! Second, she gave up her bestest buddy in the whole world…her “Bink” (pacifier)! She made it over both hurdles like a champ and had a very proud Mommy and Daddy cheering her on!
February- Jaime had back surgery for herniated and ruptured discs in her lower back. When she was in recovery and waking up after surgery she was already feeling relief from the pain. The surgery was successful and the healing process has gone well.
March- David celebrated his 26th birthday at a surprise birthday luau with all his family. He also got the best birthday present yet, a house. We finally bought our first house! Work commenced on a complete overhaul of the house. This was just the beginning months of work. We took the house back to the studs, did an addition, changed the layout of the house and put it all back together…to put it simply.
July- Our little Oakley girl turned 3! We had a camp themed party complete with sleeping bags and tents, a campfire program and songs, bb guns and s’mores! It was really fun!
August- Jaime and Oakley took a very quick roadtrip to Utah for a family reunion. Four hours into the drive we contemplated turning around and going back home because even if we did that we’d be back home before we would have been to Utah! A 3 year old screaming at the top of her lungs for over an hour makes you consider crazy ideas like that! And the memory of that screaming 3 year old also gives you the energy to drive through the night to get home before she wakes up! Oh the things you do for your kids! The reunion was fun though.
September- We all flew back to Utah where we met Oakley’s birth grandpa, grandma and half sister (who are from Texas). We spent a few days together enjoying all the fun things Utah has to offer, as well as basking in the joy of being together! Such an overwhelming feeling of love and gratitude filled our hearts knowing we’re a family brought together by the miracle of adoption. When we got home from Utah Oakley started preschool. A three hour class twice a week isn’t enough for her; she absolutely loves it!
October- Work continues on the house; getting really close to being move-in ready. Oakley spent most of the month in casts from her knees to her toes because of her toe walking. Right before Halloween the casts came off and she transitioned into braces. Her doctors are very pleased with the results so far.
November- We celebrated our 7 year anniversary and Jaime’s 26th birthday in the same week. On Jaime’s birthday we moved into our house!!! Just a week and a half after moving in we hosted Thanksgiving dinner for our families as well as hosted our first house guests. By the end of the month most of the dust had settled just in time for the holidays. The Christmas tree went up making our new home seem even more surreal and magical!
Christmas is such a wonderful time of year. We have so much to be grateful for this year. We’ve experienced so much happiness and joy this year it makes us wonder what we’ve done to deserve all of it. We hope that as you enjoy this Christmas season you’re able to reflect on all your blessings. We pray you will feel love, joy and peace now and always. Merry Christmas!
